A two-month cruise through Australia was terminated days after the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a rest. The ship departed without her and returned later that day after the personnel became aware the lady was missing.

An extensive rescue mission found her body the following day.

Authorities are investigating the event, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he mentioned that guests would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also released an revised statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The representative said that they would inspect the vessel in the Australian city upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The vessel first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's death. The remote island was the first stop on the voyage.

Travelers on the vessel - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the expedition - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the ship left the island after an organised tour without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a member of a walking club.

"According to scant information we have been told, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to identify what "the company should have performed that might have protected Her life".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a extremely warm day, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she stated.

"She was asked her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, seemingly without doing a roll call.

"During some point in that chain of events, or soon after, she died, alone."

Organization Response

Via official communication, the Head affirmed that the organization was "working closely with investigators to assist their investigation".

He stated that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had offered its total backing to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Standards

The ship serves up to 120 passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to corporate information. It was specially constructed to enter distant regions of the Australian shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to take individuals on land visits.

Events of this nature are rare, and liners have procedures to record which travelers are boarding or getting off, according to industry experts.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard really isn't an option," an authority commented.

Shipping companies take these processes with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such occurrences from happening," the authority continued.

"This appears to be most likely a stunning - and tragic - isolated incident."
