Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
