19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a former number one, has had a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
It is the player's first title since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional championship, took control to push for a third set.
He saved 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
